In a significant move to enhance professional safety for women, the local authority in Taiz, represented by the Director General of the Media Office, Mr. Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Musni, participated in a specialized workshop to discuss the "Mechanism for Protecting Female Journalists from Gender-Based Violence." The event was organized by the Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate in cooperation with the International Federation of Journalists.
During the workshop, Al-Musni emphasized the pivotal role of local authorities in supporting the media sector, describing it as a "soft power" that must be protected and regulated. He stressed the importance of joint coordination between the Media Office and the Syndicate to counter any violations against female journalists. Furthermore, he called for practical steps, such as issuing official press cards to distinguish professional journalists from social media activists, ensuring the rights of women working in the field are upheld.
Drafting legal proposals to refine the "Protection Mechanism" draft.
Defining the roles of relevant authorities and establishing rapid response mechanisms for violations.
Developing an executive framework to ensure a safe and sustainable working environment for women in Taiz.
This participation reflects a model of effective networking between government bodies, professional organizations, and human rights experts to create a professional reality that safeguards female journalists and preserves their material and moral rights.
